Overview

Fuel your instincts and bury your fears as you experience Ghana by doing voluntary work to help the communities you are visiting, learn the culture and tour historic places of interest. Since this is always in the short-term, there is a constant engagement of an experienced host family to help to facilitate the cultural understanding, learning of basic Ghanaian language and the formation of meaningful relationship with the community members.

Tour Highlights

• Visit and work on local cloth / fabric making with the Community Mamas (Mothers) -Batik tie and dye. Batiking is a traditional process of applying wax and dyes to fabric to achieve intricate and colorful patterns. Local fair-trade experience is studied.

• Visit and work on community farms and plantations. There is also an opportunity to study the history, processes of growing these crops and the economic importance of these crops to Ghana and the world (Oil Palm, Cocoa, Rubber, Cassava, Plantain).

• Visit Local Palm Oil Making Factory to learn and participate how palm oil is extracted)

• Volunteer in a community basic school, clinic, drumming and dancing school, community cooperatives and micro finance.

• Participate in the cooking of various Ghanaian cuisines with an adapted host family. This is another opportunity to learn directly from the Ghanaian family sceneries. Learning the culture (food, cloth, traditional symbols and their meaning, naming ceremonies, puberty rites, marriages, funerals).
